Avalanche Skills

Description

Introductory avalanche skills field trip with hands-on snow science, avalanche terrain identification, and safety gear practice activities. Youth-oriented activities to help students understand avalanche risk, learn about and practice with avalanche risk, learn about and practice with avalanche safety gear and learn about avalanches and where to get information to help them make safer decisions about whether to venture into the back country or not.

Notes

Dave is a Canadian Avalanche Association licensed Avalanche Skills Training provider, with 17 years experience teaching introductory avalanche safety to both youth and adults. Past participant on the CAA youth avalanche education committee. Can be a part of CAA AST Level 1 Certification. This trip will NOT enter uncontrolled avalanche terrain, as part of the CAA mandate for such trips.

Community Educator can help source snowshoes and avalanche gear for practice sessions.
