Description
This program was delivered as a walk along the banks of the mighty Columbia River near Radium for the Wings Over The Rockies Bird Festival, and proved to be a hot trip for all-ages. On this field trip students will join local naturalist Kalista for a walk in area rich in wildlife. This area should offer a unique opportunity to observe copious animal signs. Kalista will show the students how to identify animal tracks and signs of all sorts, including scat and territory marking. Kalista will also point out and talk about other natural wonders you may encounter along the way. An assignment can also be included in the program at the request of the teacher. The assignment will allow the students to develop their own field guide. At the beginning of the trip Kalista will teach the students how to make their own ?Wildlife Tracks and Signs Guide?, which they will create during the walk. The required materials for this optional assignment are: a camera, notebook, small ruler and pencil. Please ensure everyone is dressed for the weather and the walk, and everyone brings water. We might be trekking through some bush.
Notes
Note to teachers: Please contact me to discuss the optional assignment and potential locations for the field trip.
