Pro-D Bursary Program
**Applications are now being accepted!**
CBEEN members are eligible to apply for bursaries of up to $500 to support their professional development as environmental educators. Bursaries can be used to subsidize any expenses associated with attending the professional development opportunity of your choice (i.e. travel costs, registration fees, etc).
In return, members must share the new skills and knowledge they have acquired with fellow CBEEN members via a written report.
The goals of these bursaries are to:
1. Increase the recipient’s capacity to deliver environmental education (EE) to children and/or youth in the Canadian Columbia Basin region;
and
2. Increase the capacity of fellow CBEEN members to deliver EE programs to children and / or youth through the sharing of new information, resources, or skills.
Bursaries are available on an annual basis in alignment with our fiscal year (July – June) and as funding permits. Applications are reviewed and approved on an ongoing basis by a subcommittee of CBEEN Directors. **Our funding has allowed us to continue the program until September, 2011**
General Guidelines
Applicants for bursaries must:
- Be a member of CBEEN. Not a member? Join CBEEN Now!
- Reside in the Canadian Columbia Basin region.
- Be actively engaged in environmental education with children and/or youth in the Columbia Basin. Environmental education can be defined as education about, in and/or for the environment which “provides students with opportunities to learn about the functioning of natural systems, to [develop and] identify their beliefs and opinions, consider a range of views, and ultimately make informed and responsible choices for themselves, their families and communities.” (BC Ministry of Education, Environmental Learning and Experience Guide, 2007)
- Within one (1) month of the pro-d event, electronically submit a one-page written report to be published on CBEEN’s website. The report will (1) critique the workshop/conference, AND (2) outline in detail the one or two most valuable things learned (resources, skill, ideas, contact people) that may help fellow members deliver EE.
- Within one (1) month of the pro-d event, submit 2 digital photos of themselves from the workshop/conference, and give CBEEN written permission to publish these photos for promotional purposes.
Additional Information:
- Each bursary recipient will be awarded up to a maximum of $500.
- Bursaries can be spent on the environmental education professional development opportunity of your choice (anywhere in the world), but the focus should be on developing your capacity to deliver EE to children and/or youth in the Basin.
- Bursaries must be spent on expenses directly associated with attending the pro-d event (registration fees, travel expenses, accommodation).
- Bursaries will only be awarded in arrears, upon presentation of receipts, and up to the maximum amount awarded. Download the bursary claim form here.
- Reports, photographs, and receipts must be submitted to CBEEN prior to payment of funds.
- All funds must be claimed by June 20, 2011 **Now September 20, 2011**. Claims for reimbursement after this date may only be granted under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of CBEEN.
- Bursaries will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds have been distributed. Any residual bursary funds may be made available the following year at the discretion of our funder (CBT).
- Bursaries are non-transferable.
- No applicant may receive more than one bursary each fiscal year (July – June).
- Completed applications must be received at least 8 weeks prior to your pro-d event.
Application Process
- Review all bursary guidelines and criteria to ensure you are eligible and that you agree with all responsibilities.
- Complete the online application form at least 8 weeks prior to your pro-d event.
- CBEEN’s review committee will assess applications and award bursaries on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Applicants will be notified of the status of their application within 3 weeks of receiving their application. All decisions are final.
